about the bakery
The Vegan Wain Bakery is a health- and season-conscious pop-up bakery started by me (Nora Curry) in 2013. I design and execute each all-vegan recipe in my Brooklyn kitchen, with an emphasis on gluten-free and raw options. I never use unrefined sugars or artificial ingredients, always opting for organic ingredients from local health food stores and greenmarkets. The yummy treats coming your way are made possible by my favorite weekend activity of walking through the greenmarket as soon as it opens and smelling all the amazing seasonal smells and getting to interact with people in the fresh early morning. While some of my products are nut-free and virtually all of them are gluten-free, everything is made on shared equipment with nuts and wheat. I’m very open about my process and ingredients, so please always feel free to ask questions.
I started the bakery because I’ve always loved baking and over time have come to see how important it is to share food with others. Nourishment is our most basic need, and when we take the time to make food for each other or sit down to a meal together, we can connect and show care in a simple but powerful way. I was particularly struck by the beautiful relationship between food, community, and health while volunteering on organic farms in Ireland and England in 2012. The name of my bakery, derived an Irish slang term for an infant or child that my father has used with me jokingly over the years, is a tribute to that experience and to my Irish roots. Food starts with family, after all. By providing vegan-friendly breads and goodies, with an aim toward the healthier side of things, I hope to share a little cruelty-free and edible love with whoever stops by.
As of right now, I have a changing menu that will be available wherever I can “pop up,” which means yummy new creations each month borne of my love for all things seasonal. I’m extremely open to requests and individual orders as well, so please never hesitate to contact me. Check back here or follow me on Facebook and Twitter to find out where you can catch the pop-up bakery. Feel free to get in touch with feedback, questions about custom orders and ingredients, and any other thoughts.
Much love,
Nora
